No series present after running cookbook example

I'm running the task as follows: flexget execute --task 'sync-series'. The results I expected to see with flexget series but that doesn't show anything at all (is that even a valid command?). flexget series list shows:

Use `flexget series show NAME` to get detailed information

The odd thing is that running the task twice yields a different output, something changed somewhere. I just don't know where.
